Gemma Gilbert is an incredibly talented business coach for mum’s in service-based businesses. She helps with messaging, booking your first clients (+ booking out consistently!) and marketing to name a few things.

When I first spoke with Gemma, she had DIY’d her website and wasn’t in love with it, even though she enjoyed the process of bringing things together. She knew she needed a website revamp, and was wanting something more strategic and professional to help her grow her business, but didn’t have the time to figure out how to get the look she wanted while also getting her website visitors taking action.

Through our time working together, we:

  • Identified the main focus for her website

  • Uplevelled the design of her website so it was in line with her new branding

  • Designed a beautiful testimonial page that highlights the amazing feedback she receives for her work

  • Optimized her website for SEO so more people are likely to find her in Google searches

  • Made sure everything looks great no matter what device you’re looking on, since just over half of Gemma’s traffic is from phones

Before working together, Gemma was hesitant to invest in a professional website because she liked DIYing, but she wanted something professional that she could really be proud of and had gotten to a point in her business where it was growing fast and she was not able to keep up with the updates. Gemma said:

“My new website is now optimised to get visitors on my list and I've seen increased conversion rates from my lead magnet since the re-design. The website looks more professional, is cohesive with my brand and is more likely to be found through Google, all of which will contribute to my business growth and client base.

The month following the launch of my new website, the number of unique visitors was up 99% on the previous month. I feel more confident to direct people towards it, have had tonnes of compliments about how fantastic it looks and finally feel I have a website I can really be proud of.

You will not regret working with Jessica. I thought my DIY effort was pretty good, but seeing the difference of a website designed by a professional is phenomenal. Knowing your SEO, design and mobile optimisation are all taken care of is the best feeling ever. Now I've seen how much code and care went into my website design, I know this is not something I could've ever achieved on my own.”

The template: Since this was a website redesign and Gemma was happy with the functionality of the template she chose, we continued with the Mojave template for this project

The website objectives: The objectives for this project were to create a clean and simple website that was focused on getting people to sign up for Gemma’s email list and booking a free coaching call, along with optimizing all of the Squarespace settings and SEO to make sure everything is in tip-top shape

The design process: This website was a lot of fun to create! Gemma’s branding colours were a lot different to any I have worked with before, so it was really fun to stretch my creativity! Gemma had some fun ideas around having a grid testimonials page, and a rotating gallery of testimonials for her Facebook group, Mummy’s Got Clients, so we worked together to make these ideas come to life. Once I had created the layout for each page of the website, I went through and made some magic with custom code to really bring things together

Is there any custom code?: Yes! I wrote more code for this website than I have for any websites so far! Since just over half of Gemma’s website visitors check out her website on mobile devices, I really wanted to make the mobile experience extra special, so I have used my tricks for mobile optimization from this post and some custom code to really make things look great!

Favourite creative features:

1 | I love how the grid layout from the testimonials page has come together

2 | The banner images on the Meet Gemma page were competing with the text on smaller screens, but with a few tweaks and some code magic, I was able to make these look great together

3 | The Facebook group testimonials took a while to get just right, but they have been a hit! I’ve even heard a few people have taken screenshots of their testimonial too!
