Have you felt overwhelmed with the design and tech elements of creating a website that effectively promotes what you do and don’t want to leave your zone of genius to figure it out?
That’s how Ashley was feeling before we worked together to redesign her website.
Ashley used to design websites herself but realised her true passion is email marketing (and she’s damn good with emails, too!). She had spent the last few months aligning her services to reflect that passion and wanted to stay in her zone of genius rather than DIYing her site.
Now she has her new website and she’s looking forward to amplifying her business to the next level as a thought leader and service provider!
Ashley feels ecstatic and proud her show off her website knowing it’s professionally designed and looks good on all devices, which was a huge sigh of relief for her. And as an added bonus, she was able to raise her prices and has received endless compliments on how well the website shares her and her quirks.
Her favourite parts of the experience?
In our time working together, we:
Redesigned Ashley’s WordPress website to promote her new services effectively
Made it easy for Ashley’s visitors to join her awesome email marketing community and listen to her Email Marketing Simplified podcast (if you haven’t listened yet, do check it out! Ashley shares the best tips to help you simplify your email marketing and I even joined her to share about how to grow your email list through your website!)
Made sure looked just right on mobile, since Ashley has a lot of her visitors using her website on their phone
Created some cute avocado graphics and backgrounds since anyone who knows Ashley will know she says “Holy Guac” a lot!
Here’s the deets:
The template: I built this website on Wordpress using the Divi theme*, which is a great option to help you create your website pages visually
The website objectives: The main focus on Ashley’s website is to get website visitors onto her services page to book a discovery call, so we’ve weaved calls to action throughout her website to learn more about her services and embedded her call scheduler directly on the services page to make it nice and easy to book. Our secondary objective is to direct visitors into Ashley’s Email Marketing Simplified community, which is promoted on her home page, her website footer, and in her podcast episode pages
The design process: Ashley’s brand colours are bold and fun, and the fact that I was able to create cute avocado graphics made this project one of my favourites so far! I was able to play with patterned backgrounds, overlapping layers and shadows around elements. WordPress makes overlapping layers and shadows a lot easier than Squarespace (I’d have to use code there), so it was nice to play around with something different.
Is there any custom code? A little. I like to get things just right on the websites I create, and using custom code allows me to really personalise the sites I create.
I used some code to arrange overlapping layers and to make sure Ashley’s website looked great at all screen sizes, since some sections looked a little off on smaller computer screens. I also used a little code to personalise the blog template.
I’m a sucker for coding on websites!
Favourite creative features:
1 | I love the podcast layout on the home page! I knew exactly what I wanted to create for this section, and it took a bit of fighting to bring it to life, but I’m so glad I stuck with it! This section highlights Ashley’s most popular podcast episodes with a link to check out all of the episodes
2 | The avocados! As soon as Ashley and I started working together, I asked if we could use avocados on her website. Turns out I wasn’t the only one thinking it - she had others telling her she needs to include them as well!
3 | The overlapping layers we’ve used throughout the website, especially the banner sections and the sections with the avocado backgrounds. It was a lot of fun to play with layers, shadows and transparent boxes behind the text!
